I received the following note from the Saluda Baptist Office.

Anderson Community Church is hosting a workshop, “Share Jesus Without Fear“, on personal witnessing. It will be held at the Saluda Baptist Association Office on July 7 and 8. Classes begin at 6:30 pm and ends by 9:00 pm.

If you would like to send some of your members or send a person that would like to teach this approach to personal evangelism to your congregation, the only cost for the course is the workbook that can be purchased at Lifeway Book Store in Anderson.

We need them to pick up their book at the store.

They should sign up by calling Jan Robison at 225-7759 before June 19.

Also, this training module is available for free rental to our churches through the SBA Library if interested in teaching it at your church.

Wednesday night bible study Revelation Chapter one. Video will be out soon and available for members to use as a review tool. It can be run on any computer running Windows media player.

Today, Thursday I had to run my PT test for work. These running test get harder and harder for me every year. Thanks to the Lord I was able to run it out and pass the test. As you can probably tell, running is not my thing.

Friday is coming and that means attendance at the Laborers of the field outreach. Once again our group will be attending. There is a potluck dinner. Bring something to share. If you sing or play an instrument bring what you need to participate in the singing. I do not know as of today who will be bringing the message. Dress is casual. Everyone is invited to come and share with others what Jesus has done for you.

Until next time, Soldiers of the Cross Continue in HIS service, Semper Fi!

Sunday Services....

Sunday morning services were fantastic.

Gary Welch was baptized during the morning service.
Sorry but our camera would not function. Dead Battery and the charger could not be found. I hope to get a photo from Jakes cell phone camera to post.

Sunday Morning Message: Remembering the Heroes of the faith. Hebrews 1st Chapter.
Evening Service dealt with the weaponry of the enemy. The Landmine of Unforgivess.
It was good see every ones smiling faces.

We showed the screen clip of the film "Magdalena, Released from shame". We will be showing this film in July. Stay tuned for details.

One Prayer is coming up. First Sunday in June starts our new series.

Memorial Day Monday. Take time to pause and reflect on the sacrifices many have made for our freedom in this country.

Then take time to pause and reflect on those who have laid down their life for Christ and the preaching of the Gospel. True Freedom comes from God.

Comment on Comments:
I don't generally respond to comments made to my blog. That does not mean I won't read them. I, like Nehemiah, don't have time to cease the work to deal with endless questions and conjecture.

The problems with some blogs are that they become places where people argue and time is wasted debating with people who don't want to learn but just want to question. Mostly for the sake of argument.

I remember a question one seminary professor asked. Does the Bible mean what it says or does it say what it means? A lot of time in debate and argument was spent while person's went about trying to Figure that one out then prove their points. In the End people still believed what they started out with on the question. The point was?

Thanks for the response though. Please understand, After careful consideration and speaking with other Pastor's about response to comments, I have at this time decided against commenting openly. If you wrote a comment / response and see where I rejected it. It's because I won't publish responses and there is not a button to press to store the response for private comments by email later. Again thanks for taking the time to comment no matter how or why you do it. It's nothing personal.

I am studying this week Romans 1 Chapter in preparation a new sermon
We are in an age when people are scoffing at sound doctrine and people are searching for a religion that is suiting them. As I watched a video on Islam and how to witness to them, I was taken aback to the testimony of one muslim woman. She was grinning from ear to ear as she told how she, a lutheran and her husband, a southern baptist had come to accept Allah as god and Mohamed as his prophet. I also listened to a homosexual as he talked about how he had to find a church that accepted him for who he was instead of what he was/ After hearing and seeing this I began to think about what the scripture says...

NASB - Romans 1st Chapter:
* 18.For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

* 19.because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.

* 20.For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

* 21.For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

* 22.Professing to be wise, they became fools,

* 23.and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

* 24.therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.

* 25.For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

* 26.For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions ; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural ,

* 27.and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

* 28.And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,

* 29.being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil ; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice ; they are gossips,

* 30.slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,

* 31.without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful ;

* 32.and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

The study and the preaching of the word of God is needed now more than ever. Now is the time for True Bible Believing Christians to take a stand for what the word of God say's.

As you read through these scriptures, what do you find God saying?

It's time we as Christians get back to the Bible. Get back to being the Church started in Acts. Get back to the Basics.

It's something to not only think on it's something to act on.

Sunday Morning...

Great crowd for Sunday School. Glad to see Phil Dobbins come in,. Gary, Gina and Megan, as well as our regulars. We are trying to record some of the services for playback on the web. However at this time we do not have the memory capability so we will post snippets of the services as they are available.
This mornings message was:

Where have all the Hero's gone?

Soldiers of the Cross are to live a heroic life after our Hero Jesus Christ.

Text taken from Hebrews Chapter 12:1-13 Focus on Verses 1-4

Heb 12:1-4 KJV Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, (2) Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (3) For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. (4) Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

We are to model our lives not after the lives of those hero's of the faith in Chapter 11, but after The Author and the Finisher of our Faith. Jesus Christ.
Three things Hero's can do:
1. Rid themselves of Sin by Acknowledging Sin in their Life and Repenting of the Sin.
2. Fix your Eyes on Jesus
3. Persevere in the Race

Verse one begins with we are compassed about by such a cloud of witnesses....

I ask you this Question: What about the witnesses we have around us today?
Who will be their Hero?

What kind if example are you to those about you?

I leave you this morning with that Question. What kind of Hero are you?

Saturday Morning...

Well here it is Sat. Afternoon. After spending Friday evening at the Outreach ministry and working the Teddy Bear Clinic at AnMed I finally made to Shane's reception. I tried hard to make the wedding but I had to work longer than anticipated. I got to make the reception at Anderson University. What a lovely couple. I remember when he and Josh were in the 6th Grade and could not stand each other. He called my wife and I fat and Josh called his parents old. When I met Bryan Kernel, Shane's Dad, I said, You're Old and I'm fat and our kids can't get along. After that Shane and Josh were best bud's and Bryan, Diane and my wife became friends. Time sure flies by. Josh ended up with the Garter. Wedding bells can't be far off, can they?
At the reception he introduced my wife and I as Mom and Dad #2.
Congrats to the Newly Weds. Mr. and Mrs. Shane Thomas.

Friday nights crows was a little off however the Lord moved as one person came forward for prayer and persons came up and we prayed for her. If you missed the evening you really missed a good night. Mike from the Haven of Rest gave the message.
Get ready Sunday's coming.....

Tuesday has been a hectic and busy day. I took time out in the evening to go with my son to see Iron Man the movie. We had a blast. Iron Man was one of my favorite comics.
If you go to see it make sure you stay after the credits to see the "end of the movie".

Great Niece Abigail "Abbey" Celebrates Mothers Day

My Great Niece Abigail celebrates Mother's Day while being held by her Great Aunt.

Happy Mother's Day from Josh & Jake

To Super Mom. See photo at left

We celebrate the Mother's Day to show honor and respect to one of the most influential person in our lives. We all have spent most formative years of our lives with our mother and shared all joy and sorrows. Such is the greatness of our mom that she always tries to make us feel happy even in times of distress. This occasion of Mother's Day would become more enjoyable if we add some flavor of humor to it for her. And maybe a dish rag or two.

"The hand that rocks the cradle usually is attached to someone who isn't getting enough sleep."- John Fiebig

"I'd like to be the ideal mother, but I'm too busy raising my kids."- Unknown

The mother of three notoriously unruly youngsters was asked whether or not she'd have children if she had it to do over again. "Yes," she replied. "But not the same ones."- David Finkelstein

A little boy forgot his lines in a Sunday school presentation. His mother was in the front row to prompt him. She gestured and formed the words silently with her lips, but it did not help. Her son's memory was blank. Finally, she leaned forward and whispered the cue, "I am the light of the world." The child beamed and with great feeling and a loud clear voice said, "My mother is the light of the world." - Bits and Pieces, 1989

A teacher gave her class of second graders a lesson on the magnet and what it does. The next day in a written test, she included this question: "My full name has six letters. The first one is M. I pick up things. What am I?" When the test papers were turned in, the teacher was astonished to find that almost 50 percent of the students answered the question with the word Mother- Unknown

Happy Mothers Day Mom - See Photo:(She's the one in the skirt on the left.:))

What My Mother Taught Me
My mother taught me…

RELIGION: When I spilled grape juice on the carpet, she instructed, "You better pray the stain will come out of the carpet."

LOGIC: From her decisive words, "Because I said so, that’s why."

FORESIGHT: "Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you’re in an accident."

IRONY: "Keep laughing, and I’ll give you something to cry about."

STAMINA: "You’ll sit there ’til all that spinach is finished."

WEATHER: "It looks as if a tornado swept through your room."

THE CIRCLE OF LIFE: "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out."

BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION: "Stop acting like your father!"

ENVY: "There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don’t have a wonderful Mom like you do!"

Happy Mothers Day!

Message for Mothers Day 2008

2 Timothy 1.1-5, 3.15-17

1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God,according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus, 2to Timothy, my beloved son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my forefathers did, as I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day, 4longing to see you, even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy. 5For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.
2 Timothy 1:1-5 (NASB)

Priority #1: Savior
15and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:15 (NASB)

Priority #2: Scripture
15and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings….
16All Scripture is inspired by God…
2 Timothy 3:15a, 16a (NASB)

Priority #3: Service

16All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NASB)

Mother, is your child ready to serve God?
Are you preparing that son or daughter with Scripture, learned by you both at church and practiced at home?
Are you leading that child to the Savior?
Are you leading that child to His Service? Or is he unmotivated, unequipped and undirected; is he unprepared to meet the spirit of this age?

Many good men and faithful servants of God have the same testimony. The great Baptist preacher, G. Campbell Morgan had four sons. They all became preachers. At a family reunion a friend asked one of the sons, "Which Morgan is the greatest preacher?" With his eyes beaming with delight, the son looked over to his father and said, "Why, it’s Mother!"

Get your priorities in order: SAVIOR...SCRIPTURE... SERVICE

Mothers (and Dads), don’t leave the mission to the preacher, Sunday School teacher or anyone when it comes to your precious children.

A Spanish proverb says: An ounce of mother is worth a pound of clergy.

YOU lead them to the Savior;
YOU teach them the Scripture;
YOU prepare them for service.

You be a mother on mission!

No Evening Service today at Lakeview. Spend the afternoon with MOM!

Thank the Lord, News from Brother Rey Awatin

I received the following email from Pastor Rey about his and Annies safety. Please read the following:

Dear Praying Partners,

Thank you for all your prayer. I am back to the border of Thailand two days ago. Your prayer bring me safe back to Thailand. For one month mission inside Burma, I visit 11 churches. Four of the churches are new to me, others I visited them 10 years ago. We encounter Burmese army and they fire us with two armalite followed by grenade launcher. We are just 100 meters away but it was dark. They can't see us , so no one was hurt. We have to slowly move away from them until 11 PM. I also fell from the mountain slope 15 meters away from the terrain. The terrain was so narrow and no grass and with few trees. My right chest was hurt when I embrase a tree. On the way to the border there was heavy rain followed by cyclone. It was a hard trip due slippery terrain and the wind is pushing us. For two days we were bitten by small leeches. I will send the details of my trio inside after few days.

Anne and team are still in Thai-Burma border for a teachers training seminar until friday and we will all go back to Philippines on Monday. There are 33 participants in the seminars.

Our team in the Philippines. Ron ron and Nomelyn are back to Apayao from Abra. Ron ron was sick and need to see a doctor. He was sick of Ulcer, Kidney proglem. Please pray for them.

Few years ago, I expose the hoodlum in uniform. That they are protecting the criminals and the pick pocketters in the mall. Now they are repeatedly asking our workers in Abra if they are New People's Army. ( A communist armed guerillas). They even used children to make fun of our missionary in Abra.

Pray for the safety of our field workers in the field. Pray for those hoodlum in uniform that God will ambushed their heart.

Thank God for 12 volunteer workers who travel with us in reaching the Dumagat tribes of Rizal. The team hike for two days to minister to three villages. They distributed relief clothes and grocery items.

Again , Thank you for tyour continues support and prayer for Tribes in Asia for Christ.

Yours for the tribes in Asia,

REY AWATIN

Friday Nights is ministry night with Laborers of the Field Ministry

Friday Nite I was blessed with giving the message at Broadway Lake for the laborers of the field ministry. I got to see an old Buddy, Brother "Cubby" Culbertson. (See Photo)
Message from Mark Chapter 4.
"My Ship can't go down with Jesus on board"
It was a good evening of Song, fellowship as well as a good meal of the Word of God and some chicken too..

Another old buddy was there. Roger and his band came and sang for the service as well.

Thursday Night.... happenings

Thursday Night: I had the pleasure of teaching at my Alma Mater, Savannah Valley Bible College, filling in for Dr. Sam Duncan. I taught from 2 Tim 2 the many facets of a believer. Son, Soldier, Athlete, Farmer, Worker, Servant and Vessel.

I was not aware the Bible College Classes were live on the Web, but found out that there are persons around the world who watch the classes. From Mexico to the Philippines. Had I know that I would have worn my Georgia Tie.

You can catch the audio of the Classes online at http://www.gbtemple.com/
and on Thursday nights the class is live in video from 7pm until over.

Savannah Valley Bible College is an Independent Baptist Bible College. I am an Alumni Member of the I-Ate-Ah-Tata-Pie fraternity. ;-)

Wednesday Afternoon...

Wednesday afternoon was a busy time. The Canadian Snowbirds Airobatics team was in Anderson at the Airport for a free airshow. Since we live next to it we had front row seats from the comfort of our porch.

Then off to church for our Agape supper. An hispanic meal. Tacos, Frijole Negros, Enchiladas and Mexican Birthday Cake. I appreciate all the effort placed into the dinner. The ladies had a good missions meeting afterwards and the men had a devotional time in the sanctuary.

Pray for Bro. Rey Awatin and Sis. Annie Awatin who minister in the area of Myanmar.

Sundays Sermon:
Soldiers of the Cross, Training for Service. Hope to see you there. Scripture reference will be:
2Ti 2:1-26 KJV Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. (2) And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. (3) Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. (4) No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of [this] life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. (5) And if a man also strive for masteries, [yet] is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. (6) The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. (7) Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. (8) Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: (9) Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, [even] unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. (10) Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. (11) [It is] a faithful saying: For if we be dead with [him], we shall also live with [him]: (12) If we suffer, we shall also reign with [him]: if we deny [him], he also will deny us: (13) If we believe not, [yet] he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. (14) Of these things put [them] in remembrance, charging [them] before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, [but] to the subverting of the hearers. (15) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (16) But shun profane [and] vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. (17) And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; (18) Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. (19) Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. (20) But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. (21) If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, [and] prepared unto every good work. (22) Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (23) But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. (24) And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all [men], apt to teach, patient, (25) In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; (26) And [that] they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
The Evening Service will be on the Weapons used against us.
Wednesday Night we concluded our Bible Study on the Book of Genesis. Exactly One year from our start. Next Bible Study Series will be on Eschatology. Revelation and end times studies.
More Later, Pastor T.

Amazing Grace

Singing at the Lake.. Grandfather sings
Amazing Grace with Granddaughter.

Friday Night Singing & other Stuff...

Soldiers of the Cross Ministries once again attended the Laborers of the field outreach ministry event at Broadway Lake at McFall's Landing. About 40 persons were in attendance. A few different faces than last week. A young Pastor from Iva Assembly of God Church brought the message. He was caught up in drugs and alcohol up until 5 years ago. He shared how coming to know Jesus Christ changed his life and how Christ can change the lives of others. Once again the Soggy Bottom Boys (photo on bottom left), gave their rendition of a man of constant sorrow. Several persons sang including yours truly:) Some photos are attached of the evening. A good hamburger and hot dog supper preceded the message. It was good to see others coming in tonight. Preacher Allen and his Son Terry Allen was present with their wives. Terry and I go back to the days of Wamsutta Mill. If you are missing out on Friday nights with the Laborers of the Field, then indeed you are missing out. Come out next Friday and bring a friend. Home made video messages....

Trying to make a video message is not easy. You have to start the camera, give your message and try not to look like you don't know what you are doing. All the while getting your message across. I had varying comments on my birthday video. I will attempt to be more "Professional" while being spontaneous as well. Sounds simple don't it. Yeahhh!
Oh well, it's Friday. Don't miss the events at Broadway lake. Laborers in the field will have the Friday Night singing and fellowship at McFall's landing starts at 6:30pm. I will be there with several persons to enjoy the food and fellowship and the sharing of the word. Saturday Morning Lakeview will have it's yard sale on highway 24 just below Pearl Harbor Way. Those helping with the sale should be at the Church at 06:00 to assist in the load and transfer of items. Don't be late and don't be lazy. Get up and get out to the yard sale benefit. I hope to see you at both events. Pastor T.
